Our Story

The Karma Tutors Impact Fund (KTIF) was conceived by a team of dedicated educators in rural Colorado who recognized that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. All students benefit from a personalized touch, but conceptual gaps are fated to grow when challenging personal circumstances and the constraints of extreme rurality converge. Since its founding in 2020, KTIF has been filling those gaps.

Rural communities face unique challenges when it comes to education access: school districts and families have limited resources, and geographic isolation leaves students with few options for bridging these knowledge gaps. And when constricting personal circumstances meet these constraints of rural living, advancing in school becomes a massive challenge. The classic fault lines are magnified: coming from limited financial

means, being bilingual, navigating trying family situations, and seeking first-generation college attendance are all compounded by the lack of access to adequate academic resources.

KTIF is nothing if not grassroots. Our first year was all about building relationships with community stakeholders, the school district, and other youth-focused NGOs in the region. KTIF’s founders served students by volunteering in classrooms and piloting the one-on-one program with a couple of juniors and seniors. Our impact was immediately positive, and word got around quickly. In our second year, we brought on paid tutors and expanded our one-on-one model to serve five students. In year three, that number increased to sixteen, and then most recently to twenty-three.

We now have nine part-time tutors, all of them talented educators, providing highly specialized support across various academic areas. We pride ourselves on our ability to offer literacy intervention for struggling readers, remediation for students affected by educational disruptions, targeted SAT/ACT preparation, and personalized support with college essays and applications. Last year, we voted to expand our reach to follow KTIF

As we conclude our fifth academic year, we reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made as an organization in terms of our reach and the impact of our services. We are hearing it from students, parents, and teachers alike: KTIF is changing lives. Whether you’re here because you want to support our mission, sign up for tutoring, or refer a student, our message is the same: Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for believing in educators. And thank you for supporting our incredible students.

What people are saying

Thanks to the support of this organization, my son has achieved better grades and feels more confident in his classes. Without the support of KTIF, we would not be seeing all this progress. I would love for this organization to help more boys and girls in our community.

They have helped me with so much. Not only with school but with my personal life as well, I have learned how to manage my time better, think critically, etc. I love the work they do.
— College Student
I got tutoring for my geometry class which was super difficult for me. I was failing or barely passing my tests because I didn’t understand. I started getting As and Bs in my tests and was understanding my geometry class. If I wouldn’t have gotten tutoring, I wouldn’t have passed

I want to thank you for the great support you offer to our students in order for them to succeed in school.
— Teacher
We are so thankful for the match. His math teacher said there’s something different with him this year. I told him it’s because of his tutor. He’s doing homework, helping peers, and is excited to participate. He’s enjoying school and tells peers to go to tutoring!
