KTIF & Data
Why we need it, how we use it.
How do we know we’re making a difference? We hear about our positive impact from our students, their parents, and their teachers. And while it makes us feel warm and fuzzy, anecdotes only take us so far. That’s why we need data.
KTIF communicates with its partner schools to get those essential numbers: we look at quarterly grades, iReady performance, SAT & PSAT/NMSQT scores, CMAS performance, and progress reports. While it is our philosophy to see the student behind the numbers, the numbers can’t be ignored, because they tell us an important story that guides our work. We love the good feeling after a positive session, but “feeling good” is one progress marker—seeing those grades steadily improve is another.
Before we extend our services, we require parents to complete comprehensive permission and information release forms, and we share these with the school. This grants the school district permission to release student data to KTIF so that we can track their progress.
We insist on this model because collaboration with our kids’ schools is essential to what we do: we work in tandem to set goals, implement strategies, and track student progress. Additionally, our tutors serve as spare eyes for our teachers—when we notice something, we share those observations, ensuring that each KTIF learner has a village of support.
Feel free to take a look at our information release form below to get a better idea of how we collect data. This form, available in English or Spanish, is part of our intake process. Once signed, it goes to the school so that that student can be added to our roster of quarterly data pulls.
